This is a pretty cool photo of John Oates playing a vintage F-30 SB; while standing in the middle of a cotton field. The link is to his website, which opens with the photo:

In this article in Billboard magazine he states that the guitar "is the one that Mississippi John Hurt played at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival." He currently owns the guitar.

The Billboard article is about Oates' new Americana-music release "Arkansas". The album began as a tribute to MJH, but then expanded to cover artists like Blind Blake, Jimmy Rodgers and W.C. Handy. Some of the songs are played in an acoustic setting, and others with a roots-rock backing band. Looks like I'll be making a trip to the Record Store tomorrow.

My wife and I had a chance to meet John backstage at a Hall and Oates show two years ago. My son knew him through some work they did together in Spain and set up a meet w him prior to the show...extremely nice guy. We talked for a few minutes and then as we were leaving he said "hey how about we take a few photos?" Completely defused that awkward ask for a picture thing...a real pro. As we were leaving I said to my wife "you know I normally don't like to oblige having my photo taken with fans but it seemed like John really wanted one with me". "You're an ar$e" she replied.

Love Hall and Oates! Glad to see John is happy and making the music he wants to. I read his autobiography, "Change of Seasons", last year - a very good read!
