I'm looking at an 81 D25, and the TRC says "Limited" on it. What do you know about that?

What color?
Have seen that TRC on special-colored instruments but from a later period, like '89, as reported by Wiley Pickett here:
http://www.letstalkguild.com/ltg/sh...-30-12-String-1989-Limited-Edition-Blue/page2
Are you sure the '25's an '81?
If it's got a snakehead headstock it can't be earlier than an '87, which would be period correct for the TRC, and also at a time they did do some oddball colors on those.
Doesn't mean they didn't do it in '81, just that I don't remember seeing that TRC or special colors on guitars from that period.

I did find an EBay listing from last year for a Blue D25, so I’d guess it’s one of the funky colors. I know we’ve seen surf green, blue, silver, etc.
What color is the one you’re looking at, Tony?

it might just mean gold hardware, this came up a couple of times recently. there are some wild colors out there in D-25s, though.

Are you thinking of the 25th anniversary D25 which had that script on headstock overlay, and the D26, which didn't have any special TRC, but was a limited edition for Guitar Center?
Can't recall the "Limited" TRC question coming up at all recently..

and the rest look like this?

Just sold this recently. Great D25, made in '96. The gold Grovers and "Limited"
printed on the TRC seemed to me to be the only differences vs other D25s of
the era. Not sure how "Limited" they were, have seen quite a few for sale

it might not have been here. i saw one or 2 for sale. One seller said the TRC says limited, and he did a bunch of research, and the only difference was the gold tuners. possibly something else like a binding or purfling variation? i think it was just the tuners

Well ya got me guys.
If I ever saw one before I forgot about it.
Is that a white stripe I see in the binding?
That wasn't standard on D25's except for those 2 I mentioned already, that I know of.
Interesting you say that yours was a '96, Bonneville.
Makes me think they had some left over stuff from those other 2 models (Especially the D26, from '95) and just figured out a way to use it up.
LOVE that color BTW, is that a genuine "Cherry" (Don't think that was even offered at the time so that would also be pretty unique) or a "Woodgrain Red" which was "available".

The Cherry was a gorgeous color - and as can be observed in the photos, quite
the color chameleon, depending on lighting conditions...

Yep, in fact didn't we consider that in another thread recently about how the Cherry, Brown, and Mahogany can all appear remarkably similar depending on lighting?
