I'm the original owner of a 1966 D-50, serial # AL-2XX, that I'm thinking of selling and I'm trying to determine the value. It's in nearly pristine shape but I'm not sure if it has a Brazilian rosewood back or not. If you have any input on what I could expect to get for it if I sold it I'd appreciate it. I'll try to post links to pictures, but I'm not sure if it's working.Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

HI thynx welcome aboard!
About a 99.9% probability a '66 has a Brazilian back and sides, but I have no clue on value.

It's hard to say for sure whether the back and sides are Brazilian or not, but in '66 Guild was mostly using it I think. The guitar looks to be in great condition, but there appears to be little or no saddle remaining. Depending on how high the action is at the 12th fret (hard to tell in the pictures), it may benefit greatly from a neck reset.

As for value? Obviously it would be worth more if it is indeed Brazilian, but I can't tell for sure. I'll leave that up to others who know more than me!

I've got a 1965 I paid $2,200 for It does have some cosmetic challenges but for sure it is Braz. RW and for sure it sounds spectacular. It's one of my most favorite Guild acoustics actually.

WELCOME TO LTG...and thanks for the opportunity to break out the drool bib over a beautiful Guild.
It appears to be in excellent condition so my hat's off to you for taking good care of it all these years.

I have a 1970 w/ a Brazilian back. I know Brazilian rosewood can vary a lot depending on source wood and how it's cut, etc., but mine is much darker and much more highly figured than this example. Doesn't mean yours is not Brazilian, but it looks closer in appearance to my Indian rosewood backed Guilds.

I got mine for $750.00 but it needed work, which I had done at Guild in New Hartford. My total investment ended up being about $1800.00. It's one of my best sounding Guilds; I rate it above both the D55s I owned (one from Westerly and one from New Hartford), both of which I sold, while keeping the D50.

I would recommend having an expert help you to determine if it is Brazilian, as that will affect the price considerably. Either way, I bet it's a terrific sounding guitar!
