I am used to seeing two letters prefixing Guild serial numbers but came across this one the other day.

Can anyone help shed light on where and when it was made. #7399069 NO PREFIX

Thanks

Good question. There were times when serial numbers did not have a prefix but I don't think they ever got that large. Pictures might help. With nothing else top go on I could postulate sloppy handwriting turned JB-99069 into 7999069 but even that is problematic if the ID of X-700 is correct. Hans?

If it is legit it was Most likely made in the Custom Shop with that type of serial number. Is this the guitar you are speaking of?

If it is I can see the edge of the Custom Shop label through the F-Hole.

If you want to take all the guess work out of it shoot member Hans Moust here on the forum an email and he can probably tell you for sure when and where it was made.

That one on reverb is sold. Did you buy it, Byrd? It's a beauty!

Hello tx,

Yes, it was made in the Guild Custom Shop in Nashville in 1999, but it is not the guitar in the link that you posted; that one has a Guild humbucker mounted on the body. The X-700 that the original poster is referring to has a floating JS pickup.

Sincerely,

Thank you Hans, that is most helpful as always.

I haven't been to see the guitar yet but can you please tell me "Do you know the make and type of pickup used by Guild at that time? Was it the same as on the Johnny Smith model?"

Sincerely

Byrd
