For about 12 hours, I listed my beautiful sunburst F-50 Standard on Reverb. I was tired of fighting the nut width (too narrow) and scale length (too long).

Then I made the "mistake" of playing it again for old time's sake. Oops.

It is a ridiculously good guitar at any price, and holds its own against my "boutique" guitars.

And so it has won a reprieve. The Reverb listing has been taken down. The F-50 sits snugly (smugly?) in its case, still surviving the Darwinian guitar challenges I keep throwing at it.

Just needed to share.

Sometimes when I have a guitar that stays in the case for a while, I tend to forget what first attracted me to it. When it does eventually see the light of day, the memory banks pleasantly kick in.

Good move to keep the jumbo!

if you want a Guild acoustic with a fat chunky neck, try one from the second half of the 90s. Every Guild acoustic ive ever played or read about from that time period had a chunky neck. I had a 1976 F-20 also with a chunky neck, that may have been more random (sold that one here). not sure about nut widths specifically, but those necks were all a handfull.

Maybe my '96 D25 is the exception, but it's definitely a LOT slimmer than my Corona D40's neck: "Modern Flat Oval" compared to "U" if using diagram below.. Both spec'd with 1-11/16 nuts.
'01 F65ce's the same "Modern Flat Oval"except it's got 1-5/8 nut so feels even skinnier.
This diagram appeared in the 2001 Fender Frontline catalog:

Yes I know it's supposed to be for electrics but it was the first time I ever saw anything that explained why the Corona neck felt so fat to me. Never knew about neck profiles until then.

I wonder whether there is a mental health crisis in the LTG community? I read posts from people who think they need to sell an instrument because they "have too many" or sell because they don't play well or often enough to deserve the instrument or sell because an instrument just sits in the case and rarely gets used. Maybe there is a therapist who will offer group discounts?

I saw it posted yesterday Neal and I was very tempted to send you an offer. I'm glad you came to your senses because I had no idea how I was going to work it into the finances, LOL! She is gorgeous by the way!

Smart move Neal! Although I prefer wider nuts, my F50ce and Martin D18DC are definite keepers. I paid a ridiculously low price for both of them and my F50ce can do it all, and hold its own against guitar five times its price. It's such a beauty, too.

Interestingly, when I got my '99 DV-52 the neck felt exactly like my '76 D-25M, which I was really happy about. I think they are identical, at least that's how it feels. I'm going to have to measure them now

When you retire, imho, there is nothing better for your mental health than a room or two full of guitars!

Edit - Add in a room full of amps, too!

I'm a therapist. I'd be happy to offer group discounts so long as I'm paid in Guilds!!
