The World War Two heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis (CA-35) has been found in the Pacific Ocean, 72 years after its sinking by the Japanese submarine I-58. Resting at 18,000 feet it was positively identified by the 35 on the hull and debris found around the wreckage also marked with the ships name. There were 1197 men on board at the time of her sinking on July 30 1945, estimates are that about 400 went down with the ship and almost 800 were left to founder in the sea for 5 nights and 4 days before they were miraculously rescued on Aug 4th. Only 320 were pulled from the sea and of those 3 later died at the hospital, making the official survivor count 317. Only 22 of those are still alive today.

Even today there are few souls that know even a small piece of that overall event. So many people owe so much to those few souls that gave everything. May they all rest in peace..... with high honors!
