This is THE song that grabbed me and turned me into a big fan of Glen and, naturally, John Hartford.
I actually won a bet at an open mike in the early 70s when a young lady wagered that I wouldn't get all the lyrics right....I nailed it and won a BIG FIVE BUCKS.

That is an import (Japanese) baritone/6-string bass guitar...he uses it much later in another video, for Wichita Lineman (not the one with the red Fender Bass VI).

Barry and The Remains, a Boston-based group during the early British Invasion also had a player with one; in an
email with Barry some years ago, he confirmed it was a baritone but could not remember the brand or where
it wound up.

Looks very much like a regular six-string that LaFayette Radio used to sell...

And he wasn't even playing a Tal Farlow model (with the little scroll on the lower bout).

One thing you can say for both, they certainly did not have a weak little finger...:wink:
