In the mid-1990's, I purchased a blonde T-50 with a vibrato tailpiece. The guarantee certificate insude the guitar shows EB 654 as the serial number and shows "Guild Guitars Hoboken, New Jersey.

The official list of T-50 serial numbers ends in 1969 at EB 652. Also, manufacturing supposedly left Hoboken in 1966. Finally, I've never seen any pictures of another T-50 with a vibrato tailpiece .

Does anyone have any thoughts or explanations?

Welcome to LTG! The last numbers for 1969 were not the last with that serial number prefix as Hans explains on page 47 of The Guild Guitar Book. During 1970 the serial number system was still in use, so it is a 1970 guitar. Hans can most probably tell you exactly it if was still assembled in Hoboken or already in Westerly. Regarding the vibrato, Hans might know if it shipped from the factory with one or it it was mounted afterwards.
