I've done something like that with an old popsicle stick (my dad had a stockpile, now mine) and a pair of twist ties. Now I use Vibramate Spoilers. More expensive but less hassle for my increasingly lazy self. (Whenever I swap out pickups in a guitar nowadays I install Mouser Molex quick-connects to avoid future soldering work.)
