What do you think of the look of the 5th knob?

I'm going back and forth between "looks cool" and "looks dumb".

Guild MV knobs tend to be smaller but I really don't like those. I'd say they're smaller to be out of the way since they're usually positioned sort of in the way, but with the position of this one I could use a larger knob. Here's a current Starfire with MV:

I think anyone seeing it without knowing what Guild MV knobs look like would opt for "looks cool." I know and I still think it looks cool. :) Gretsch MV knobs are the same as their "standard" knobs (at least on the 6120 model) and I can't remember hearing or reading any negatives about that. (No doubt there are some, but…whatever.) I'd keep it.

I think it looks great. I'm with you about the small knob looking funny. I might try that on my (ex your) X-500.

It was not unusual for Guild to use the regular G-shield knob when a Master Volume control was mounted as an option; especially when the pickup selector switch was installed on the bass-side shoulder. Consequently it looks 'normal' to me!

Nice. I'd be hard-pressed to get a better affirmation than that!

I agree! It looks great, and I would do it to any guitar I had that didn't have it! I love that feature on my Gretsches and my Carlo Robelli/Peerless RB1955. Thankfully my X160 Rockabilly just has the one volume and one tone knob...although I wish the volume knob was where you're putting your MV.!

The flame top is so nice on that guitar, it's hard to notice any knobs!

If you think the flame on the top is nice, wait 'till you see the neck!
