Hey all...

I've lurked for a while, but finally decided to join because I finally fixed up my old
F-212e. It's from 1966 or so, and it had the wrong tuners on it for a while, so it didn't get played much over the years.

It had oversized Grovers installed in the 60s, but that made it almost impossible to tune it because the buttons kept hitting each other… That's the way I bought it years ago. Finally this week I installed a complete set of Grover minis, and re-strong this guitar for the first time in at least seven years.

Got to say… It's a monster. The sound is huge for a folk musician like me, mostly just strumming in open tuning. The factory installed pick up still works great, and other than the tuning machines, I'm leaving it as it has been (Although I could probably use a new bridge).

I've never personally seen another with a factory installed pick-up, although I'm sure you're out there somewhere.

If any of you are familiar with this model, chime in with your thoughts about restoring it further.

Welcome to LTG and congrats on giving up your "Lurker Status"!! I have no personal experience with the F-212e, but others will be along soon who do. Your first posts are moderated so you may experience a slight delay in your responses. :encouragement:

Hello Cpotters,

Welcome! I've seen quite a few F-212Es over the years, but your chances of finding one, if you would like to buy one, are slim; they're somewhat rare!
1966 would be possible since that was the official introduction year of the 'electric' option. By the way, does your F-212 has the 'electric' or the 'special' designation written on the label after the model number?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Welcome to the boards, cpotters. There is nothing like a Guild 12-string! Congrats and kudos for fixing up that old 212. We're going to need pics, then audio clips, then videos of that baby in action. Well, OK, one step at a time....:friendly_wink:

Hey Cougar, I agree that there's nothing like a Guild 12 string. But, my ad on Reverb for the past 16 days for my 1975 F-212XL at $1,050 isn't gettin' any offers, though there are six watchers. Any suggestions on how to get this baby moving?

Jeez, I don't know, Rich. Nice ebony on that jumbo. I see you've already made a price reduction, which is usually what the watchers are waiting for. I really don't know pricing for vintage Westerly models, but I got a great deal on my Corona JF30-12, also ebony equipped, burst, and essentially mint condition, for under $900. Well, everyone was saying that one won't last long, so maybe I was just lucky. Luck to you!

on the road!
Hey Hans - I had a 1967 F-212 that had built-in electronics, and don't remember seeing any special designation after the model number. It was a gorgeous sunburst with double pick guards. Needed a lot of work, and I ended up selling it when I went fulltime RVing. Now I have a bigger RV and am looking for another 60s era F-212. Can't beat the sound!

These are the pics I was trying to upload...

You're almost there! Right click on one of the pics over there at google photos and "copy image location."

Then come back here and, while you're making a reply, click on the "insert image" button along the top of the reply box. It's the third from the right. That will open a dialog box. Just paste in the url that you copied from google photo. That's it!

Jeez, google photo url's are LOOONNNGGG. Well, it works anyway....
