On the plus side, I got a new test subject.

That right there is a 1985 Guild S270 Flyer. I'm suddenly addicted to these '80s shredders.

I bought it from guitar center. Here was the ad: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Guild/FLYER-S270-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc

Here's the pic from the ad:

I got this guitar for $350. I felt like i was taking a chance because the pic is OK, there were no details, and the description was "good - works as it should with minor dings, etc." There's nothing like having low expectations and getting an excellent condition case delivered with what most sellers would describe as a guitar in 9/10 condition inside (I'd probably give it an 8/10). The only thing it really needed was some bore oil on the fretboard. It reminds me of a Charvel Model 2 which often sells for about the same price but those were made in Japan.

This thing is all black - like stealth guitar black, though it's too shiny to be stealth. :)

Thanks - I love it!

It's pretty cool. For the price these '80s Guilds are killer guitars. Hell, I could sell the case for $100.

I'm generally not crazy about EMGs but they were the thing to have back then and it certainly looks cool in the all-black guitar.

I thought the frets were worn at first and then i cleaned them and what looked like divots in the frets were actually just clean marks in the corrosion. After I polished them they looked new. Crazy.
