I've been a huge fan of John Doe (and of X and the Knitters) since the 80s, and he's been using a Guild D40 at least since the early 2000s. He also picks up a Guild S300-type electric when playing in a full band, non-X setting, though, as X's bassist, he usually plays Fender P-Basses. though on the last X tour, he had some funky Kay-like vintage hollow-body for much of the show. He's always worth seeing in any setting, imo.
