HB-1 Neck pickup too muddy

So the neck pickup on my s90 is pretty muddy. The bridge pickup screams and is great but the neck is missing the midrange punch and has too much bass. Is there hope to fix this problem? I like how on the old SG juniors they have kind of a mid range magic going on. Maybe if I got a different pick guard and put the neck pickup a little further from the neck or replaced the neck with a different pickup than the HB-1?

First thing I would do is adjust the hight of the pickup. The behavior of a pickup can change a LOT with even some minor adjustments in distance from the strings.
