    Carol Kaye Flashing the "Bird"...

I came across these videos of Carol Kaye playing the guitar at Berklee (I bet you were expecting a bass posting!). For those that don't know, Carol Kaye is a legendary jazz bassist, and was a big part of "The Wrecking Crew" in the early days of rock and pop when it was common for studio musicians to do much of the instrumental work on albums because they were simply much better. Here is Carol showingh her chops on not just any guitar, but on a Guild Bluesbird! Sounds like the tone is rolled way off, but still very cool.

Those are pretty cool! Given her reputation as a bassist, that's some outstanding guitar playing!

The very talented Carol Kaye started out as a guitar player. I've had the pleasure of meeting her and sitting in on a few of her workshops over the years.

    A couple of historical articles:

Quite a bit of info on her gear:

Her 'custom elec. 12-string guitar made out of an ordinary Guild T-100D 6-string elec. guitar (by repairman ace Milt Owen - he replaced pickups at my request, and fitted in the extra 6 strings on the headstock - it was a thin neck and played good).' has been discussed here on LTG previously.

Yeah! Laura Veirs, no slouch on guitar herself (though she uses it mainly to accompany her singing), even wrote a song some years back called "Carol Kaye."
