Wow! That's some serious space there! Got the riding mower ready? ;)
Congrats again!

Actually, I'm trying to decide if I want to pick up a riding mower or pay someone to keep things mowed and trimmed. Not that I'm lazy... or maybe I am!

A huge congratulations, Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with that space!

Don't know what to tell you about that one. All I know is that my when my dad is on his riding mower, he feels like he's a king on his royal steed. He goes to a magical place where no one can reach him. :C)

Congrats on the new digs!

And remember to use the seat belt on that mower . . . my sister suffered a nasty head injury when she failed to do so. Zero-turned herself right off the machine.

Here's a few pics as we've been working along...

cave1_zpstjvhdtc2.jpg

Just starting. Framing up the walls, inside the existing building.

Got the big ceiling beam in. Had been dreading that one, but it went well.

Starting with drywall. 4 layers, altogether, well buttered with "green glue".

And this is pretty much where it's at today. Drywall up and about done with tape & mud. Soon for paint, A/C and carpet.

More to come as we move along.

Very exciting. Will be looking forward to updates!

Just curious, why 4 layers of drywall? Was it for better acoustics or temp/humidity protection?

My first priority is to minimize the amount of sound leaving the building. Don't want to annoy my neighbours if I can help it. So, inside and outside walls are each made of two layers of drywall, with "Green Glue" between them. Does nothing for inside acoustics, but that'll be addressed in other ways.

That darned mirror is too big to move easily and so it's still hanging around.

To my untrained eyes, that center beam seems rather larger than it needs to be, considering it's just holding some 2X4s and drywall. You needed the 45 degree supports ?
