Hi All,

I just bought a used 2012 SF IV trapeze, so far I'm loving it (my first Guild). After setting it up properly; adjusted neck relief, action, intonation, pickup height, double side taped the bridge. It's been playing and sounding great. BTW the bridge PUP sounds good to me.

I've been playing it constantly for about a week now, yesterday I noticed for the first time a pretty noticeable rattle (unplugged), pretty sure it wasn't there before. It's most pronounced when hitting the open G string. I've been messing with everything trying to isolate it, but not luck so far. At first I thought it was the bridge, then the PUP switch, now I'm thinking it's inside.

Anyone else run across this?

Thanks

I don't know, maybe it is the bridge. I see other threads complaining about the TOM bridge. I've never had a problem with them on my Les Pauls.

The G string also sounds a little dead, doesn't ring out at clearly as the others. I checked the truss rod, tightened it some, didn't make a difference.

Often the rattle comes from the saddle-retaining wire on the bridge.
The one on my Capri rattles once in a while.

As for the semi-dead g-string, is it always? only when open? only when the rattle is happening?

I just had a Starfire III serviced for a resonant rattle I couldn't isolate. He dismantled the entire thing, reran the wires and tied them down inside the guitar. The rattle is gone. In this case it was just some perfectly resonant something-or-other in the wiring harness that needed to be tied down.

Welcome, Simbot! i had an Epiphone Casino that rattled - it was one of the pickup wires that was flopping around. I'm sure any decent repair tech can find it.

Thanks everyone. Turns out it was the bridge. I fixed it by putting springs over the adjustment screws to keep some force on the saddles. The PUP switch is a little rattly too, I'll probably install a better one.
