Howdy All,

My old guild starfire that has one lowsy tuning peg. It has one of those gaps where it turns really easy. Additionally, the headstock is pretty damaged, its still together but installing new tuners is probably not an option unless they are a perfect match. So I'm wondering if there is a way to make them stay in position better? Any ideas?

TIA!

Sorry. No ideas and I don't think the Newark Street tuners are a drop in match for the vintage although I should probably check.

Sometimes you can jiggle the gear and worm a little to get them tighter. But it sounds like some portion of the threads on the worm part have been stripped. Or a gear tooth or two.

I struggled with the exact same problem on my lovely Yamaha SA-17 bass. Eventually gave up and bought a couple of similar ones. I just swapped one in but at some point I'll try to take parts from a new one and put it on the old one.
