Guild guitars on the Guitar Center Sessions. Plus Alanis Morissette. Ironic is kinda wonderful.... don't you think? Just sharing is all....

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well isn't this nice..."
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic...don't you think
A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think...

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

I've seen this before and I think my comments at the time still hold true: love the singer, love the lyrics, and it's good to see Guilds in action but jeez, would you find a spot you like and stop walking all over the place?!

I always thought the lyrics were too obvious and immature for it to be an interesting song. "Oh, she was scared of buses and one day she was killed by a bus, isn't it ironic?" Songs shouldn't just state the easiest and most obvious lyrics, otherwise, you might as well be reading a recipe for creamed corn.

Maybe she'll have something to say after she gets some time in. I much prefer Courtney Barnette. She's from Oz, and has a really clever way with songwriting and language that I like.

for the most part I couldn't relate to that tune. I was really pushing for rain on my wedding day and I often use spoons to cut with cause I am kind of lazy...
still, a good chorus for sure but the over play on radio killed it for me. she had this other tune i really liked though, cannot remember it today. good to see her still rocking.

Seems she has...uh..."matured?" Didn't she used to stand in one position and do a sort of apoplectic vibration as she sang?

Liked seeing "my" F47R being used, guess I had the strap button put in the right place (runs for cover!)

"Hand in my Pocket"?
"You Oughta Know" ?
(She don't mince no words on that one.)
Both 'em better lyrics than "Ironic", in retrospect.

Hand in pocket, thanks Al. I thought that tune was groovy.

Interesting how she changed the lyric....Met the man of my dreams....then his beautiful husband....rather than wife. Good songwriter who has made her mark, her way. I liked her as God in that Jay and Silent Bob movie (name forgotten). Talented woman....

JimmyD, you're talking about "Dogma" which is one of my all-time favorite movies. I simply cannot watch that movie too many times.

What's "ironic," indeed, is that they gave Alanis a silent part where any time she opens up her mouth people's heads explode. I always wondered if she got the joke. She is fantastic cast as god, as was all the insane casting in that movie. I mean, you can't understand half the dialog (Linda Fiorentino and Salma Hayek come to mind) without turning on subtitles, but somehow those guys are all perfect in their parts.

Still not impressed. I'm not impressed with whiney songs. I can't stand Jason Isbell's new single either. Just not my cup of whatever.

Steve, you obviously don't care for the song. Or Alanis. That's fine. It's not a whiney song. I'd say just let those of us that DO enjoy Alanis enjoy her.... okay? This reminds me of a Joni lyric, "The virtue of your style inscribed on your contempt for mine."

Nuff said. :encouragement:

That's what I've been talking about with regard to those New Hartford F-47R's.

This is an excellent representation of what they are all about. Visually and sonically stunning.
