The silverface Princetons and Princeton Reverbs can be great bargains if you shop carefully. The PR's reverb is voiced darker than the blackface version, otherwise they're sonically the same amp (given sample-to-sample variation) through the early '70s. The 1970 & later amps have beefier transformers too, a good thing since the amps run hot voltage-wise. The non-reverb silverface Princeton's circuit is identical to the blackface's through 1970, then only minimally different.

I personally prefer the non-reverb Princeton these days. The older I get the cleaner I set my amps, and the Princeton is a great clean platform. Sounds particularly lovely with the Bluesbird and a Catalinbread Topanga reverb pedal. My PR is a '70. It's a louder amp, with bigger bass, than my friend's blackface Deluxe Reverb. For some reason this continues to annoy him. ;) Of course he's using the original Oxford (?) speaker while I've got a newer & more efficient Weber C10N clone in the PR.
