Some years ago I saw a vintage single cut Starfire in Emerald Green (it belonged to the late Howard Herbert, owner of small neighborhood music shop in Philadelphia). Mr. Herbert, who had been a Guild dealer, said the guitar was a "Custom Order" and had DeArmond pu's, a Melita bridge and a wider nut width. As I recall, the green was very dark, almost black. Very cool guitar.

Maybe it's just the lighting, but something tells me CMG did quite get the color right. Sure looks more like Kelly green to me. Yuk!

This is a photo using an Instagram app with a "color filter" selected.

The fastest way to know that a "social media specialist" is using Instagram is the square format. The next thing to look for is an otherworldly unnatural color scheme. This photo has both.

The guys in charge of Guild's social media postings are in an office in Santa Monica. They need to learn the importance of getting every fact, color and specification correct on every public representation of the products.

They once put a post on their blog about Carl Newman (of Destroyer and New Pornographers fame) and his 70s M-75 Bluesbird. They included a link as a sort of "buy this guitar" promotion, and linked to a Newark Street Aristocrat. The only thing those two guitars had in common was the M-75 designation.

I think the social media folks have a lot of learning to do, and need to turn off thier stupid Instagram filters before customers get pissed when the guitars that arrive on customers' doorsteps are a completely different color from what they were expecting.

Just my two cents.

Great analysis Kent. I'm not an Instagram member, and didn't know that. Interesting, because nothing is square aspect ratio anymore, is it? Sounds like CMG has some learning to do here.

Murphy's law just smacked me upside the head.

I made a factual error on a post where I chided someone else for getting thier facts messed up. Carl Newman was not a member of Destroyer, but New Pornographers band mate Dan Behar was.

Please give us all of your Guilds and never come round here again! :highly_amused:

Just to bring this thread full circle, here's a pic of John Collins (also of Destroyer) and Carl with a trio of Guilds, one of which is most certainly a 60s Emerald Green Starfire V.

I posted these once a while back in another thread. Here's a better pic of the Guilds.

Looking at those photos it confirms that vintage emerald green Starfires, regardless of variety, still look black in anything other than bright light.

Check out Doyle Dykes ripping on this dark emerald beauty. The NS Starfires sure don't seem to have the same deep luster. Maybe it was intentional so that they wouldn't be confused for ebony?

More great photographic forensics!
Somebody oughta run right down to Oxnard and tell 'em in person.
Somebody from here.
If you bring donuts they might actually pay attention.

Well... my local Guild dealer ordered and received one of these green Starfires. I stopped in today for a look-see and took a few pictures.

So, there you have it. I found it to be much closer than the original picture in this post, but very dark and still not quite right.

Perhaps if I'd taken it outside in direct sunlight it would be closer?

Thanks for the recon Dave!

That's still a couple of shades lighter than Greenie, but some of that is due to the yellowing of the lacquer over 47 years, as Walter pointed out.

Great Googly Moogly!

I kinda miss the harp tailpiece but will forgive all if they make a SF XII. I owned a '67 in emerald. It was my first good guitar.
