I just picked up what I think is an early Japan-built Madeira A30R

Can anyone confirm from these photos?

Anyone got a source for the missing chrome ring on the 1st string machine head?

Also - the saddle looks as if someone's done a lousy job with a file - and it also seems to be leaning forward in the adjustable bridge piece.

Does anyone have ideas about what to do about that?

Thanks

Welcome to LTG! I guess you say the label shows it is definitely a A-30R but you just wonder about where it was made. The oval label indicates it was made in the 70ies in Japan and not in Korea as the later Madeira models which had square labels. Also the headstock indicates it was build before 1975 as the 1975 advertisements already showed a "round" top of the headstock (but still with oval labels which I believe were also made in Japan).
The exact matching "chrom ring" or "tuner bushing" as it would be called is probably difficult to find, your best bet is to visit various luthiers and ask around, one might have a fitting one in his spare parts box.
Regarding the saddle, I guess any good luthier could make you a new one which fits in that adjustable rosewood bridge.

Hi, trintagula! I'm new here, too.

I know the Madeiras and other imports don't get a lot of love, but the A30-R is a great guitar. However, its greatness is diminished by the not-so-great bridge. Rather than work on this bridge, you'd do well to have it replaced with a nice, good-quality one, with a new, good-quality saddle.
