Bass Humbucker question

The underside of a Guild bass Humbucker appears to read "W 7212". (Definitely 7212...the W is questionable....)

what do these mean? 12th week of 1972? "Westerly?"

Don't know what the W means. Isn't it 1272 and not 7212 ? 12th week of 1972.

Here's a picture I found (the left one) which looks like 3572 and that round W as well. Maybe an initial of the winder?

It looks to me like W 7212. Mav, your explanation seems quite feasible. I'll go with that, unless Hans tells us otherwise.
