Hey truetone, that looks just like the one I picked up locally on Friday. Darn nice and well made guitar for not much more than taking out the boss out for a nice dinner.

I've only had a chance to play it for a few minutes after I got it home, but the tone is quite good. I'll have a better idea once I compare it to my S-100. Will do some pics also.

Squier did a Polara copy? Wow, that's news to me. Crazy. When were they issued? What's the body and neck made of? Finally, how does it play and sound?

Yep,here are the specs:

"The Squier S-73 is a double cutaway solid mahogany guitar with a set mahogany neck. The rosewood fingerboard has jumbo nickel silver
frets and newly designed block inlays, and a 24 3/4" scale length. This guitar features two Seymour-Duncan designed humbucking
pickups and is available in Black and Wine Red Metallic. US MSRP is $726.99."

Right, like I said...Duncan Designed, like it says right on the pickup, instead of SDs. Duncan Designed are different...they are made overseas and are out of spec with their US counterparts, usually hotter. Do we know which DD pickups are in there?

I think I have a "Duncan designed" Humbucker on a Gibson USA Flying V melody maker (2011). It's a single bridge pickup (no neck pickup). It sounds quite good. Similar enough to the SH/59/SD to be added to the list. Id say it's somewhat high output. I don't play the guitar much because it's been autographed. It sounds nice though. Not sure if that is the same pickup on this Squire (which basically looks like a Dearmond).

My best guess is, that the Squier S-73 has the DD HB-102 'Buckers. I'll pull one up when I change strings. They were wound in Korea according to Duncan specs. I plugged it in and played around for a bit again last night and I like it. The 1-11/16" nut width and neck profile suit me very well.

I got mine today. What a beautiful guitar!I think it is just as well made as my De Armond M-75T and the Duncan Designed pickups sound really good
It's hard to tell from my photos but the Wine Red metallic finish looks stunning in person.

Cool, thanks for the info.I got this from The Seymour Duncan website

The HB-101 was patterned after the Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59 Model™ humbucker set. It uses an Alnico 5 magnet and winding spec based on the revered 1955 - 1960 Gibson P.A.F.

The HB-102 was modeled after Seymour's favorite humbucker combination, the USA-made SH-4 JB™ bridge and SH-2n Jazz Model™ neck set. Like the HB-101s, these pickups also use Alnico 5 magnets, but have a hotter winding spec, based on the world's most popular "hot-rodded" humbucker. The bridge pickup is Trembucker-spaced.

FWIW the pickup on my Gibson Flying V Melody Maker is the HB-103. I got this from the Gibson website:The single Seymour Duncan HB-103 ceramic humbucker in the bridge position is crafted in the image of Gibson's acclaimed PAF ("Patent Applied For") humbucker of the late '50s, but updated with a ceramic magnet for great power, clarity and sustain, and routed through a single volume control to keep it all simple. Go easy and it purrs sweetly; hit it hard, and there's as much crunch, wail and sustain on tap as any rocker will ever need.
