1960s Höbner Archtop Guitar

Here is an interesting guitar, a 1960s Höbner archtop. There is an obvious ripoff of the Höfner logo, but there is no attempt to pass the instrument off as anything other than what it is. The sticker on the back of the headstock, now partially missing, more or less indicates the instrument's Indian origins.

There are Givson guitars in existence, as well: http://musicshop.lakshmansruthi.com/product_lsit.php?name=Acoustic Guitars

Interesting. Yes, the sticker shows the correct street address for Hobner's Musik in Calcutta/India.

I have a Givson -- got it for $5.00 at a yard sale in Rhode Island from an Indian family who had been in the States for a couple years and were moving back home.

Like this Hobner, it's an archtop and has the same tuners (awful!).

The F-holes in my Givson look like they were carved with a dull pocketknife.

I bought it strictly for its novelty value, but raised the nut and now use it for slide occasionally. It sounds better than you'd expect! ("Like a guitar costing two or three times the price," as my friend said.)

But I've got to replace those tuners at some point!
