I like it! Well-played and clearly well-loved is fine with me!

That is awesome looking! Looks like the bridge has been replaced or moved at some time, and by the saddle height it seems like a neck reset has been done. Did you do the work Refret?

Love this old dark pickguards too.

Yeah, when I got it, it was a hurtin' pup. Bridge shaved from the top, lifting up, mis-positioned, action was like 2 feet at the 12th fret, open back cracks...Now it ain't pretty but it's solid. The finish sort of fell off part of the neck heel from the steam immediately. It's a keeper.

The pic of the wear on that D 40 is very similar to my D 35, except mine has the finish on the back. Sure don't have to be so careful with them, do you? I hate worrying about dinging up a nice finish. I know a guy who has had a Guild dread for a long time who has very little vision in one of his eyes, and that guitar has some character for sure.

A '65? Probably just starting to open up, huh? I hope my '97 D-4 looks that good after a few decades of outdoor summer bluegrass jams.

Funny you should mention that, my '96 D25 has about 1000 hours of outdoor sunshine on it and what was originally a "Natural" top is now a deep amber. I likey very much.
I also got a working hypothesis that it takes around 200-250 hours of playing time for Guilds to open up (at least for Fender Westerly and Coronas), been able to track all mine since new.

it looks great! one of these days I have to learn how to post pics. my old D50 is crazy looking. top cracks repaired unevenly, sound hole worn thin in places, and when they decided to remove the pickguard they pulled part of the top off! the back of yours would win the wear contest for sure though. what an awesome find. it's got a lot of someone's heart in it!
