I don't believe he owns the hangar, but he is a resident caretaker of sorts. Probably gets to park his bus in there for free to keep an eye on all the airplanes, keep the facilities clean, etc.

Holy crap, Zac!! That's pretty fun, if a bit bizarre. Kinda ties in to Toni's thread about paring down and downsizing. No yard work for that guy.....

That hangar is at the Reno Stead Airport where the famous Reno Air Races happens annually.

He did say that when he acquired it he had it gutted and an entire new interior installed.

Ralf, how did you know that? Your Search-Fu is impressive! :)

I wish I would! I just saw a picture of somebody standing next to it and she said where it was:

Gotta' gets me to Reno! :)
Fer the bus, you mean, right? :biggrin-new:
It's actually only about a 3 or 4 hour drive this time of year.
If you DO go, make sure to allow about a whole day to see the Harrah Collection at the "National Automobile Museum":
http://www.automuseum.org/
and
http://harrahsautomobilecollection.com/
A lot of the cars are displayed in life-sized dioramas of their "period" and you can get real "up close and personal".
I was able to walk right up to an original Cobra Daytona coupe as if it was just parked on the street in '65, was actually able to see how crude the fiberglass work was. It was, after all, only meant to race.
They also have (had?) a Thomas Flyer (Tony Curtis' car in "The Great Race"), sucker's wheels were almost as tall as I am. Thing was HUGE.
There were only a couple of areas that were roped off, the ultra-high buck stuff like historic Formula One Ferraris
