Having bought Diane's '57 CE-100 project, I need a specific close up pic to work on the binding. I need a close up of the binding at the tip of the cutaway so I can see what type of joint they used: miter or butt. Unfortunately, the one piece left on the tip broke off during shipping.

So, if anyone with a '50s era CE-100 could take a pic for me I'd appreciate it. All I need is the very tip, so try to get as close up as you can.

Thanks!

Here's one I found on eBay, a '56:

Looks like a miter, as I thought. Ah, '50s binding. That's why I use wood bindings in my own builds.

Hm, interesting. On your '56 it's just a single binding, but on my '57 it's a 3-ply (white-black-white.) At least on the top.

Hi Chris,

I had an early '56......it had single binding....was the one I traded to guildman63, but all others since I've seen are 3 ply.

Zizala, I now have the early '56 that you traded to guildman63 and that is the one shown in the close-up. I have seen other examples from 1956 that have single binding. Here is one double-pickup model from the same year that looks original to me:

That said, the switch to 3-ply w/b/w certainly seems to have happened during the first year of production, as evidenced by several examples found online. The all look like miter joints at the tip of the Florentine cut-away to my eyes.
