Strap pin hole?

Hi all,

Question - I'm looking over a possible purchase, and seller sends me pics of the guitar (a T-100). The one thing that catches my eye is this:

I'm used to seeing the strap pin screwed into solid would on the tail end; haven't seen this large a hole on the end block except on acoustics. Is this expected? If I wanted to replace the endpin with a modern one that just screws into the body, would I dowel up the hole first?

I believe these had acoustic style white plastic endpins, I know my A-50 does. You could put one of those in, as is. To plug it, remember that the hole is tapered, but you could do that.
