Nice. But I have to ask, are you sure it is a '66? Every (subject to the kind of dumb errors I seem to make often) example in my p0rn collection that has the offset thumb and finger rests is '67 or later. There are a few examples with the parallel rests and the neck PU position from early '67 as well, so to the extent that serial numbers can explain Starfire bass chronology (and I know they do not and there are exceptions) that positioning strongly suggests '67, not 66. Thanks.

Wow, the placement of the thumb and finger rests never occurred to me that it is a '67 instead of a '66. I'll have to check the serial number when I get home, but you're probably right. Thanks for the info. Also, I noticed my previous SF in your p0rn collection.

Neat. For the most part I am just snagging pictures of pre-68 basses from anywhere I find them (started out as a research project based upon a whole lot of misconceptions but was fun to continue) but I have found a couple cases where a new owner found an old picture as well as one serial number that was used on both a factory SF I and SF II. That duplicate has been confirmed by Hans Moust.

Nice score! No suck switch so looks to be early 1967. As such, I would not rule out 1966 If you were given reason to believe it is 66. I'm sure u can get to the bottom of it before long around here...either way home run. Congrats!

I'm stoked. I can't wait to play it tonight at my practice.

Frono, just noticed that you had this picture of Greenie in the p0rn collection:

BA-1703.JPG

It's also labeled as a '67, and it's a '68. How about a better shot like this one, where we can all tell it's really green?

Snagged Greenie and will update and correct the year. It always warms my little corner of the internet when someone (correctly) suggests I may have made a mistake because it means people are paying attention.

Actually, I just double checked after getting a PM from Hans, and the correct SN for Greenie is BA-1703, which of course is what Hans has on record (natch). Hans requested a shot of the headstock, and here it is, prior to Fixit doing some excellent touch-up work:

And thanks, map34157, it is a beautiful bass indeed!
