The tuning pegs on the NS Starfire are definitely bigger than those on the '67. I did not look at mounting holes but the shaft is larger.
According to what I saw the Newark St. Starfire Bass is using Grover's "Vintage Bass Machine Heads (142C)".

Do those sizes fit to what you have on the NS bass?

Here are two pictures of the 2013 NS SF bass, and below one of a 1968 bass (which are Kluson tuners I believe):

Your pictures look consistent with my basses. In pictures the difference is most obvious looking at the shaft.

I seem to recall that Guild used several brands of tuners in the vintage years. I know Kluson was one but I have it stuck in my head that there was at least one other brand used almost interchangeably as well.

Hey Curtis...

Boy, you have you got your work cut out for yourself finding parts. Since I just went through reconditioning my Starfire-I (BA413), I know what you're in for, and mine had all the parts ;-)

The easiest way I found was to image search on both Google and Bing and following the links from there - Lots of dead ends but that's how I found you to replace my corroded poles - You had a picture of one you had worked on previously. With images, you can get a view of what it's suppose to look like and what's available.

One thing I notice is there aren't any screw holes for mounting the bridge - were they filled in? Also, mine has a metal grounding plate for the bridge that looks like it was riveted to the body - you won't see this in pics as it's hidden underneath the bridge. There's a ground wire that goes (internally) to the PUP cavity.

I have a wiring diagram I made from my original wiring but can't see how one uploads pics here so I'll email it to you. I also have a parts list for what I got from Stewart MacDonald (Pots/Capacitor) I'll send along.

Good luck with the restoration!

The holes are visible in that picture:

You need to host them on any server/picture hosting webpage and just link to the jpg picture here.

Ahhh ya - They do look (to me anyway) like they're filled in. Pretty subtle ;-)

Thanks for the image info Ralf.

Above is my '71 JS which has similar bridge mounting. It is hard to tell with the reflections but you can see the mounting plate refered to in a previous post. If better pictures are helpful, I'm sure someone will take some.

Here's a pic of the plate beneath the bridge -- Also note the felt pads between the bridge and the top face that allow the bridge to be tilted with the adjustment screws...

Helping you out: (the link that you tried to include was correct, but you should have had it included in the "Insert Image" button (maybe you need to set your setting under "Settings, My Settings here at LTG to use the WYSIWYG editor)

Thanks - As you could tell, I was trying. This is the first forum I've visited that requires linking vs direct upload.
Will check out the settings :)

There are several copyright and legal issues, not to mention storage costs and bandwidth charges, that a site that hosts images has to deal with. Since LTG is a labor of love, funded by one person's deep pockets and voluntary donations, saving money and not even going near a situation where you might need a lawyer is the reasonable thing to do. Hence images are hosted elsewhere and linked to here.

I posted Guilds SF II wiring diagram up topic. Your SF I looks like what I would expect deleting one PU, the MV and one set of controls from the SF II. Do you agree? It is kind of hard to get confused about the wiring for a passive one PU system, but you never know.

Thanks for taking a better bridge picture. I knew mine was bad but I also figured it would inspire somone to do a better job.

There is some photo interpretation posted on LTG spearheaded by mellowgerman that pretty convincingly makes the case that the PU on a "sweet spot" SF I is not in the same location as the bridge PU on a SF II.

le vacillating bridge pickup

mello - thanks for finding the thread. Glad to see you back. Nashville? PM or email if you'd prefer not to veer.

Yup, Nashville kinda just happened by chance. Just getting settled in... looks like this is where I'll be trying to work off the loans. Still have my sights set on Twin Oaks as soon as those are paid off though! Enough veer, I'll PM you with more

Curtis, good to see you on the LTG board! It would be great to hear more about your BS-DS and EB-BS pickup models

Thanks for the welcome.... I am not one to go on and on on what I do, I prefer to let other speak on that subject. Besides who wants to hear someone go on and on ho how great they or their stuff is. If you have a question I am happy to answer.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Well I will ask in advance that you post updates on this restoration project so we can vicariously watch over your shoulder. And we are interested in what you end up installing as a PU and what you tried and didn't like.

Well the latest is I got the binding glued back down where it was lifting, and have shipped it off to Fixit to get the headstock veneer done properly.
As for pickups I am planning on keeping it a SF1 but winding the pickup as a Starfire 14k with a Darkstar tap 6.5k and having a push pull tone pot to swith between the 2. Will be finished back to red.
