I've wanted to build a Supro with the 6973's, just because I've never heard one. The last amp I played through was my GA1-RT, for it's low volume crankability. Before that, it was a mid-sixties Thunderbird 1x12 combo.

I've got five different Valcos with 6973s -- a Supro Supreme, an Airline 62-9023A, an Airline 8503-S, a National ValTrem and a National ValVerb. They each have their own sound due to different circuits and speakers. I've got another one on the way, this time under the Atlas label.

My National ValTrem is my favorite looking one. But as for sounds/performance...kind of a toss up between the Supro Supreme and the Airline 8503 (same as the early Supro 1624T; two volume knobs with one shared tone knob).

Then, apparently because that wasn't enough, :), I went and built one of my own design, inspired by my National Professional (which is powered by four 6v6s).

I got into Valco-made amps in a big way, starting maybe 4 years ago or so. I've also morphed from repairing my amps into building amps from scratch and this has become a really enjoyable additional hobby for me. Most of the amps I've built myself (and others) recently are very Supro-like. My two favorites are modeled after the Supro Coronado (1690T) and the Supro 1688TN.

I love those cabinets! Did you build those yourself too?

Yup. It's about as close as I could find (in terms of texture) to the "rhino hide" stuff that Valco used on many of these amps.

I am currently playing through a Resonant Barely Legal 18. Best way to describe the amp is a cross between a fender tweed deluxe and a Marshall 18 watt bluesbreaker.

The Deluxe Reverb gets the most playtime. The Hughes and Kettner has the cleanest- clean sound of any amp I own and the Gibson is a pretty cool little amp. The Marshall is LOUD but I never really liked it until I got my hands on a Les Paul Goldtop with P-90s - that is the amp for THAT guitar!

For the variety of gigs I need to cover, always liked a 2 channel tube combo. Have a Fender Hot Rod DeVille but really prefer the sound of the four EL84's and three AX7's. Say what you want about Peavey...but this pair of classic 50's have never let me down. Only Peavey I ever really liked.

I use one of three and I really don't have a favorite:

1. 1980-81 Deluxe Reverb, electronically and cosmetically blackfaced to the '60s style (the '80s style blackface just looked WRONG). It has a Weber California ceramic.

2. Fender 1963 Vibroverb RI. Speakers replaced with Ragin' Cajuns.

3. Music Man 65-210. I bought it used with 2 Weber Chicagos already installed.

Hello Jorj, yes the Strymon BlueSky is amazing. Their newer Flint pedal looks intriguing to me too. The Flint is a really smart pairing of a reverb and tremelo in one box.
