Hans - thanks.
Why would an owner have wanted fatter than normal frets?
More of an electric guitar neck feel?

Yes, in that re-set thread the author notes use of epoxy in the nut and frets, don't think Guild would have done that.
Only thing I ever heard of 'em using in Westerly was hide glue, except for pickguards, used NCL to melt 'em right into the wood and then finished over 'em.
Have memory of seeing a couple of Gibson acoustics in my teens (they would have been 60's-70's vintage) with wide frets and seem to recall that it was supposed to make "bending" easier. One of 'em a Hummingbird, now that I think of it.
But it might well have had its frets dressed. I was ignorant of such things, then.
Seem to recall seeing that "wide fret" thing confirmed as a Gibson characteristic on another forum recently, as well.

Thanks adorshki... appreciate the eyeballs and observations.

New Hartford D55, not sure what year. Frets look narrower to me than typical 70's era D55's
