There are a whole series of exercises designed to force bassists to develop a good sense of rhythm. They pretty much all come down to a metronome that only sounds on a particular beat and only in a few measures. The drill is to be with the metronome when it does speak. Not always easy.

If you are focused on the downbeat, here's an alternative :wink:

I suspect it is difficult to play seated although the two octave neck could get interesting...
