Hi Zack; that thread is the web's mother lode of amp technical porn; everything from Fender assembly line stuff to one-off boutique work ... with its right-angle, bundled wiring. Ok ... you could say that Leo was worried about so many millie vanillies of voltage drop if the wire were 1.5" longer - or - you could say he was worried about the extra cost of the 1.5" of wire ... both are probably true.

There's a sister thread over there ... one dedicated to custom wood cabinets * ... another manifestation of the manly arts; cabinets made out of oak, walnut, mahogany, cherry, and exotic species ... some really sensational stuff there too.

* Edit: found it - TGP custom wood cabinets and another one too.

Speaking of the manly (amp) arts ... a work-in-progress now at Wuzzatronics Sound Labs NZ ... a 4 X EL84 Ceriatone design ... the guy does good work

Wow! That cabinet link is amazing.
Hi AJ: maybe we can get a few folks to go take a look by teasing a little ... a lowly Fender 5F1 Champ reborn:

Yours? I've been watching too many Home Improvement shows on cable because I really like the various browns and textures in the photo.
No ... not mine; just a not-so-subtle reminder that's there's beauty and inspiration beyond the borders of LTG.

Of all the pics in the thread, this one is a little more compelling for the reasons you suggested.

I agree with the Cap'n and Frono ......... that Champ is a delightful piece of work.

A lot of that Gear Page stuff is way too much of a good thing. And what a shame that the builder in Zulu's post didn't take the time to find the right grill cloth.

If there was room for a workshop at Maison Coastie, I'd long ago have learned the art of cabinet-making.

I might have gone with a different grill too ... but that salute to a 1930s art deco radio cabinet is really pretty cool ... and it might have been driven my Mrs. Cabman's insistence she didn't care what he did ... so long as it looked like furniture.

Yeah but Coastie, I don't think they even make orange snakeskin grill cloth.

I was thinking of maybe gold-flecked tangerine cloth, with little monkeys printed on it.

... Speaking of ... A couple of end tables converted to speakers ... Mrs. Juan holding absolute authority on the appearance of the 'front room' ... but I needed speakers to go with a 50 watt Kirksaeter receiver. The inner sides were lined with plywood and damping; lower pic shows speakers and crossover. Not really the best way to go at this but I did wind up with more expensive / better-grade raw parts and speakers that what was available in the commercial market.
