Yeah the occult, that's what I was referring to.
The skinhead type bands are what used to go by the name hardcore punk or just hardcore. The only band I really liked in this vein was Suicidal Tendencies. They were about as close to being mainstream hardcore as you could get. I can't say I recall any swastikas in those bands pictures, but that was twenties years ago, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of those bands used that kind of imagery. Eventually hardcore evolved into something called speed metal and thrash metal and I'm not sure where its gone from there. The audience is nearly as big for these bands as it was in the eighties and nineties. As much as I dislike the sound of the speed metal bands, I really admire the speed with which they can play, and the physical endurance needed to play at that speed for an entire show.
I never assumed that any of these bands had a political agenda. They were just looking for a hook, and a way to appeal to an audience.
