Well I picked up this little guy tonight, Just wandering what you guys think. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=013
I am assuming the hagstrom pickup isn't original, but I was wondering if anyone knows if they ever put hagstroms in a JS II. Also does anyone know what the bridge pickup is? I know this thing is beat to hell, but with that hagstrom I figured $350 was a good price. I guess I will know more when I get it. If this thing plays and sounds good there is probably a good chance I will have a black '75 JS II that is in mint condition up for sale soon.

Hello Dreamlander,

Well the instrument obviously had some work done to it but the pickups are probably original. They're both Hagstrom pickups but the pickup surround for the smaller unit was made at a later date. They probably cracked the original one.

Here's a photo of just the pickup:

Good luck!

What an awesome score - congrats! I've seen JSs with the Hagstrom pickups come up before, but very rarely. I've never seen one with that small bridge pickup before, nor did I even know that configuration existed!!

Even if the neck reset needs to be re-addressed, you got in that one cheap enough to where the extra expenses would be justified - at least in my opinion. Rest of it would clean up well from the look of it, maybe add some OEM knobs, and worst case you could have somebody like Roger at Jeannies Pickguards fabricate you a new pickup surround (I know he's done that in the past for Gibson basses).

Well, it's pretty rare in that configuration but what about a left-handed one!

Looks like they couldn't come up with a left-handed harp tailpiece, so they used the 'old' symetrical Hagstrom style

Sincerely,
