So 3 weeks ago I bought this little mandolin just to hang on my wall with my 19th-century German zither. Got it for $50 on eBay from a seller who sells silver cutlery & doodads. Apparently this mandolin just came with an estate or something.

I googled the maker today, Hans Hauer, and saw that my little mandolin may be worth something! Here's some pics:

Do any of you know about this guy? He may be a relation of the Hermann Hauser luthier family. I don't know if he also made guitars, but I found one mandolin very, very similar to the one I purchased for sale for $375.

This brightens my day after my wretched busted 12-string fiasco.

Thanks!

Barbara,

I bought my "Hauser" new in about 1964, ($125.00) Many years later I learned of the famous Hauser, premier guitar maker.

Turns out my guitar is just what the price paid would indicate, a reasonably good quality guitar, perhaps a student model, most likely made by some shirt tail relative of the famous Herman Hauser.

p.s. $125.00 for a kid working after school for $1.25 hr was a princely sum at the time. Traded in an absoultely horrible Silvertone F hole archtop.

Here is a link to a recent EBAY sale of a Karl Hauser classic similar if not identical to mine. $265.00.
