WHOAH! You've got John Cippollina's setup there in that final pic! (Quicksilver Messenger Service, for those who may not recognize the name. One of the premier San Francisco "acid -rock" bands.) I've seen the pic few times but never recognized any Guild content! ISthere any Guild content? Can't really tell from here...some of the effects units perhaps?

Hi Al and thank you for the ID'ing the owner of that rig. I scarfed the pic some time ago but didn't take the time to tie it all down. I would say that the rig is in the R&R Hall of Fame except that I don't know that for sure and people can get busted around here for playing fast and loose with the facts ... so ... I'll edit my remark: "... the rig might be in the R&R Hall of Fame ... ". Yes, the Guild content there is pretty obscure ... perhaps fractional? :D

You piqued my curiosity and your memory was good..it IS in the R&R Hall of Fame according to his memorial website...with a rundown of the equipment:
    http://www.johncipollina.com/rock.html
Even if there's no "Guild" content, it IS one of the most gorgeous set ups I've ever seen.
It's them "gold trumpets" on the top that really set it off...

Not sure I can remember ever seeing exponential horns at all in the land of R&R; not so uncommon in PAs and other applications .. pic of vintage Klangfilms below:

... and commonly used in theater speakers:

But the pic offered good terminal punctuation for this parade of Guild amps. 8)

Interestingly, on the first album, there's a track penned by Hamilton Camp, "Pride of Man" that has a prominent horn arrangement. I usually detest horns in hard rock of that period but that's one arrangement I like. Wonder if Cippollina was influenced in the studio, or by the final mixes? I don't think he actually had that setup at that time.

Absolutely. It's a great document to have on file here. Thanks for the bump.

Wow, capn! A fine start, to say the least. Like I said before, you and matsickma need to write the bible on Guild amps! I am duly impressed.

Thanks John but matsickma has forgotten more about Guild amps than I'll ever know. Hope all is well with you. J
