I'm new to the forum. I have a nice electric bass, but I am looking to buy an acoustic-electric for a smoother, less agressive tone. I have read good things about the Guild B4CE and I like the fact that it is relatively small bodied and has a shorter scale. I have also seen reference to a model called a B4E NT HR. I can't find any specs on the latter. Is it bascially the same at the B4CE - electronics, body size, scale length, etc? Although I have read good things about the B4CE, but can't find anything on the B4E. I'd appreciate your feedback on one or both of these models. Thanks for your help. Buck

Welcome, bsnelson! There are a few bass specialists on this forum, and I hope they answer your questions quickly. I just wanted to drive the welcome wagon by!

Thanks for the heads up. I've been looking at that one, but I still don't know how it compares to the B4CE.

B4CE and B4E specs

Hello bsnelson,

They are the same instrument. It's another example of Guild's inconsistent use of model designations.

The "HR" is for "Hand Rubbed". (I just learned that last week on this forum.)

I think that's a nice way of saying Satin Finish.

Although the 'hand rubbed' finish has a matte appearance, it is not the same as a regular 'satin' finish.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Well I shall throw in a couple of comments since this has no bids and less than a day to run. I have the B4CE listed here and I support the other comments that the B4E NT HR is effectively the same as the B4CE, at least in terms of specs.

That said, unplugged my B4CE sounds like an acoustic guitar, only lower. I've been told that it can be heard distinctly about 6 feet away in a living room while another acoustic guitar is playing but I sometimes have difficulty hearing myself.

Amplified, it does sound pretty much like an acoustic except it is a little tinny. It is not quite as agressive a tone as my Starfire I with rounds but it is definitely more aggressive than my JS II with flats. The good news is there is a lot of variation available from the Fishman PU but I still find that each bass has a different tone. Thus I'm not sure it would be my choice for the smoothest, least aggressive tone from my three Guilds.

Thanks; I think that's 6 of us FL LTG'ers...Port Charlotte, Brooksville, Jacksonville, Pensacola, Juno Beach, and now Gainsville....

A lot of our Northeast broz are going to try to get together this summer; if we don't cut up too bad like certain Canuckians and Keeweeze I know, maybe the Boardmeister can wire us together in a mini-forum.

Whatever...welcome...post early and often!!
