Checked out a new Wretsch dobro in town today. $500 including gig bag. Looked like it was made from the same grade plywood used for paneling basements.

Elderly has some better grades: http://elderly.com/vintage/items/50U-1667.htm

Dobro GAS can be spendy,

Coastie , do you have a picture of the Fender Resonator?

Jeff.

Here's the only photo I currently have.

I couldn't comment on this vs. anything else on the market. A friend with access to the N.Z. Fender agent's stock offered to pick me the best one from stock, at the "right price", so I took a punt.

Nicely made (in Korea), and the price of admission is friendly.
No problem handling heavy-gauge strings.

I've fitted it with a National cone and Maple biscuit/saddle, and Gotoh tuners.

I have read a fair few criticisms of the Fender F-50, the wood-bodied version.

Try this, for something completely different.............

This resonator development in NZ isn't helpin my Dobro GAS one bit.

Soo Coastie, do you actually play that tin beast. That has to be one caterwauling muther. Name me a tune you play on that thing & how it's tuned so I can get an idea, please.

I'm clueless here on slides & opening tunings, How does a Resonator differ from a Dobro

I've been facinated by the Dobro or resonator for some time now, always sounds great listening to old Dire Straits.

I'm sure Jeff could help out with this then, the Guild resonator. Next time I lift the lid of one of my guitars to retrieve wayward picks, doesn't matter which one, I'll rivet in some metal funnels and give it a try. Now riveting may just be temporary so Jeff, what't the best way to permanently fuse tin to wood, so that it doesn't cause too much damage when I remove it later?

Can you imagine what this will sell for with Queensryche written on in crayon?
