So I've had some time off from work and have been organizing a box of guitar parts and realized I have a set of original DeArmonds from the 50's with both the white Guild pickup covers and also the black Gretsch covers. I have to check the magnetic poles to see if the bridge and neck are the same or opposite poles.
Assuming I have equivalent sets in both colors I have a question on which color to mount on my black Westerly X160 Rockibilly guitar. Adding the black NOS or used white Model 2000 in todays pickup market is a $600 upgrade. However I don't plan to sell this guitar and am looking to update it's tone with the vintage pickups.
Aestetically I'm thinking the black DeArmonds would look the best on a black body guitar.
Any opnions on pickup color selection? Black DeArmonds have been used on early Starfire's but I don't recall them being on a X-body.
(Note...assuming I don't drop over prematurely I would return the guitar to the stock reissued white DeArmonds if I ever sold it.)
Tnx,
M
