Hi all,

I'm looking at 1999 X-150D on ebay. The guitar looks to be in great shape it does not have the traditional Guild pickup covers. It has Gibson style pickup covers. I've never seen this before. Have any of you? The seller claims "Note the Pickup Covers Are Gibson Style: They are Original- I got this Instrument New Directly From Guild as an Endorsed Artist!" Does this sound legit to you?

Big thanks,

Thom

M hunch: I bet they're SD '59s like they were putting in Bluesbirds and S-100s at that time. I'd be surprised to find they were HB-1s with different covers, though I think that might be possible with the late '90s Fender/SD HB-1s (not my wheelhouse). I do suspect they're original, though, as the two-screw adjust means that they have the little adapter plate to mount to a traditional humbucker foot. That's not something that's often scrounged up/fabricated when somebody swaps out HB-1s for Gibson-style humbuckers.

If it's an artist/endorser guitar, the artist probaby spec'd a pickup he liked and Guild delivered it that way. That's what I'd think, anyway.

The pickup rings seem to have the smaller spacing between the 2 adjustment screws that came with the Fender Made pickups. They also had adapters as stated previously in this thread to make a Regular Humbucker fit the existing Fender Pickup rings. My guess is they are Duncans. Either 59's or I have also seen some guitars that were ordered with Duncan Antiquities. What ever the case, It is most likely an improvement over the Stock Fender pickups that came with these guitars from the factory. The only question I have is if this is the original owner and Guild sent this to them as an endorsed artist, Why doesn't the owner state what the pickup specs are? Clearly it was a modification that the owner requested so they should be able to say exactly what they are. It is a good looking guitar with some wear on it and I 'm curious to what is going on on the back where the neck meets the body by the binding. If it were in perfect shape I would still think it is overpriced by at least $500. It has been listed on ebay for a long time now. I remember seeing it last summer. Just my 2 cents worth.:friendly_wink:

Shipping seems a bit high to me and yes, the binding between the back and neck looks odd. Shame the photos don't have the blowup feature for a better look. :grumpy:

Hey Thom, I don't know where you are located at but if this is the Guitar you are wanting and this is the price range you are looking at, Guitar center has my old 2003 Corona made X150D that is Mint without a mark on it for $1829. They just marked it down from the $2199 they were asking. Here is the link for the Used Gear section of Guitar Center. Search for "Guild" closest to zip code 77573. It should be the first one to pop up. Great thing about guitar center is if you don't like it, you have 30 days to return it. Just another suggestion for you.
