I really enjoy my 1992 X-170 but I find that with the volume turned down below 3 or so, I really lose a lot of the higher range of the pick ups. Is this normal and is there a fix. I find I like the sound with the volume and tone all the way up to 10 but some times I want to crank the amp and turn it down at the guitar but I lose too much the high end and the sound gets muddy. Thanks john

Thanks die for the information. That appears to be exactly what I need to know. Now I just need to see what value the pots in my X-170 are and what parts I need. Has anyone done this modification to there X-170 and did it make a big difference? What values did you use?
Thanks again John

my pleasure!

That one I can't help you with but I am probably going to have this mod done to my 1961 X175 which is now at the shop getting some other mods done. I'll probably get it back next week and can tell you then if nobody else has beaten me to it. I it a fairly common mod- I think Gibson calls it a Memphis tone circuit.

I will likely do this to mine at some point, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Can't wait to see how yours does. :)
