Would this hygrometer be ok....

I'd go for it, in a case.

That said, in my search I ended up with one of these. Basically, we don't have a real dryness problem and there are several guitars in the house (although not all of them need humidification) so something for the room is marginally more useful than something for a case. My research turned up a lot of comments about dial hygrometers either not working or never changing so you don't know whether they are working or stuck. I wouldn't expect that to be an issue with something aimed at the cigar market, however.

Ordered, thanks :) . Looks like it'll be a couple weeks as they ship directly from Germany

My reply may be too late, but I bought several of these: Caliber III hygrometer

Same price as Frono's suggestion, about $16 apiece, & readily available from Amazon. In addition to displaying current temp & relative humidity, they also record max/min temp & max/min relative humidity (since it was last reset).

That one was my first choice if I couldn't find one that I liked that was analog. Just felt this was one thing that I'd use that didn't require batteries.

I don't think Hairhygrometers for Cigars are good for guitars! Cigars are stored at a much much higher humidity, so in the critical 20% to 40% range such a hair hygrometer is not good. Hygrometers reach the highest accuracy within a limited interval of humidity. Normal hygrometers for rooms are therefore set to achieve highest accuracy at a much lower humidity level of room humidity in a range from 30% to 60%. For the typical humidity levels for cigar storage of over 65%, the accuracy of these normal analog and digital hygrometers decreases significantly. The same applies vice versa.
I can't find where, but somewhere I read that digital hygrometers are way more accurate for long time monitoring compared to hair hygrometers who need a lot of maintainance to get accurate readings.
I use for instance the Oasis hygrometer and also the Planet Waves one. Same kind what geoguy is using. But they need batteries...

I think accuracy does't matter too much here.
I try too keep 50% in my living room, but I don't worry if that is +/-10% for a while.
So: don't keep humidity way off 50% for long (!) time but spend more time on playing than checking the hygometer too much …
Just my 0.02.

I'm inclined to agree. If accuracy were important to me then I would almost certainly restrict my search to hygrometers that allowed me to calibrate them.

I seem to recall that the preferred humidity, according to Guild is 40%-60%. I do not think it is going to damage the guitar if the humidity is a consistent 39%.

In my situation, the humidifier stays in the guitar until the room gets over 60% so as long as the hygrometer is accurate enough to get that right, then I'm happy.

You can calibrate those dial hygrometers (more or less):
Two common methods
• the damp cloth method or
• the table salt method
are described here.
Good and accurate enough for keeping our guitars healthy!

I mentioned calibration specifically because there are a lot of hygrometers that have no way of adjusting the reading in response to calibration. I'd rather adjust something than remember the readings are always 10 percentage points too low - reading 40% when it is really 50%, for example.
