Today I spent a couple of hours talking with a pretty awesome home builder. This man happens to be in the process of building a home for a friend of mine and my wife and I have been watching his work very closely.

Anyway, we had discussed guitars very briefly early in the conversation, and eventually got around to talking about flooring. I very jokingly said to him, "So, I guess if I wanted you to, you could do me a floor in Brazilian rosewood?" He replied, "Funny you should ask that, I'm doing Chip's floor(my friend who's home he's building) in South American rosewood." I asked if it was Brazilian, and he said heck, I don't know if it comes from Brazil, Peru or Venezuala, but it's South American rosewood.

Thinking of building a guitar out of my floor. All kidding aside, I'll let you know what Chip's floor looks like. BTW, I asked if it was expensive, and believe it or not, he said $5 a square foot. That's pretty middle of the road incase you haven't done flooring lately.

$5.00 a foot is the price of the materials right? What's the installed price.

Not sure Jeff, we talked about so much in two hours, but I'm sure that wasn't installed. Floor plan and foundation were discussed mostly... and ways to stay within building allowance. I wish I had the time and knowledge to do it myself.

I'll be really curious to see Chip's floor. His will be down in a couple of weeks.

 Hey, for the right price, this builder will do whatever you want. These guys nowadays will do everything from installing a security system, to sprinkler systems to grass and landscaping. Whatever you're will to pay for. Yep, he's to a G shield.

Ah, Westerly one; should that read..............

"a home for a friend of mine and my wife, and I have been watching......."

OR "a home for a friend of mine; and my wife and I have been watching........"

Bit of a worry, what with you moving to Upshur County, and all !!!

A little clarification......the man is building a home for a friend of mine, my wife and I have been closely watching the construction of my friend's home progress. Is that better?

Do any of you know of any wood flooring that is very slip resistant?

My floor is a stained, worn-out, dust-catching carpet. (It looks like something they'd wear in Upyours County.) I want to get something my dogs won't slip on. Old dogs can have their feet slip sideways, one foot east and one foot west, and be lying there unable to get up.

I can get the concrete under the carpet refinished with a rough non-slip surface, but I don't know if you can get wood like that. Maybe they make 12-inch squares with rising grain, and you could install them in different directions to retard slipping.

Sorry West, this is a serious matter. I have laminate floors on the first floor of our house and it is not good for the dog at all. He comes bounding down the stairs, or rather he used to when it was carpeted, and hit the laminate and scoot and skid all over the place. Now he has to take his time and consider, even though they don't do those sorts of things, what the consequences are going to be.

I thought about putting this type of flooring in, although the grip seems to be a bit extreme...

Then I thought about layering the floor with these, but A - I didn't think the fire marshall would approve....

And 2 - I didn't want to end up with one of these...

So we just got him a good pair of converse and called it even.
