This 65 charmer has the mickey moose single coils..everything works fine and it sounds great....when the volume it turned up all the way, everything is good, and quiet..however if I turn the volume down just a bit like from a 10 to 8 then it hums . on either of the pickups or both together...when both or either are turned up full...no humming....weird, cause if it were just a ground shouldn't it do that all the time...and when it does humm when I touch the strings or the switch it does stop while I'm making contact...any idea whats going on....? :? I wish I could help... but I can't. It must be annoying as I usually keep my volume at around 7 for chording then crank it full for solo's. I'm sure you'll have an answer soon :)

Single coils are not humbuckers, so there is a string ground wire that goes to the bridge. When you touch the strings, you ground out that hum. That's how it's supposed to work.

Its got a wooden bridge, but the tailpiece is the chrome harp... when I was working on the guitar and removed that I did notice a wire going to it kind of where the end pin would go..the humming does go away when I'm touching the strings, but when its turned all the way up, on either or both together...and I'm not touching the strings there is no humm.....hmmmm :? that confuses me....Steffan

Ok, when the switch is in the middle position I get no hum as long as either one of the pickups is turned up full...I can adjust the other one and there is no hum . If I'm using either the neck or bridge pu. its fine unless I turn down the volume then it humming unless I'm touching the strings, maybe its working like a humbucker when the volume is turned up. or maybe just a not good contact to ground? When I lean the guitar against the amp, even with the volume on the guitar turned down, it hums....Steffan
