I don’t have the headstock decal logo for my ‘70 D 40; it was scraped off by a previous ‘refinisher’. I posted a lookout for ‘Guild’ decals, but forgot to ask which logo is appropriate for this guitar. Is it the simplest plain gold one? There’s enough online images of the various decal logos that I think I can probably create a stencil. Thanks to all who responded to the previous decal search.

Thanks, West, Your pic looks about life-size, I'll see if I can copy and stencil it. BTW, yours is an applique, not an inlay? Can't tell from pic.

Not mine Wontox, I just grabbed the picture off of eBay, but it's correct for the model.

99% positive that's an inlay. Note the "D" is just a tiny bit out of scale. Also I don't think they even did appliques in '70. Silkscreen maybe, but I think even that's a little later when pressures to bring costs down started to increase.

From Hans' past posts, I think the D-40 headstock went through several versions from its introduction in the early-mid-60s thru the early 70s. Initially, I believe it had a black overlay with inlaid peaked GUILD, then for a (very) brief time in the early 70s had a rosewood veneer with peaked GUILD inlay (maybe also a version with Chesterfield?), then back to black overlay with inlaid GUILD and Chesterfield.

I think this is a '71 with the rosewood overlay and GUILD only inlay that just popped up on eBay... but it looks a little light, more like mahogany (?). Might just be the photo, tho'.
