Lately, I've only had my 75' D-35 to play, but I've really missed a 12 string. My 67' F212 should be here this week sometime. I think someone already said it; 6 strings guitars do 6 string guitar things, while 12 strings guitars do 12 string guitar things.

My '06 D-55 has been my #1 for solo acoustic gigs since I bought it new. Simply an OUTSTANDING axe and SO easy to play!

The others in my stash all make it out to various Open Mics. Love 'em all and USE 'em all.

Theres a home studio in the land of fused. And a kid that shares it when he gets home from Berklee in Boston. I taught him too well and now he is going after it. Bad bad fused! :x

So between us, there are a lot of characters that make noise in that room. Oh and there are guitars too. :roll:

None of my guitars does everything very well....
But they each do one thing extremely well. As I intended when I dragged them home, kicking and screaming, but my wife eventually stopped and is at peace with them now... :wink:

The Martin and 12 acoustics have hit the local coffee shops with the kid a few times now. Great for recording but we let them out when I can be convinced. :D

Three archtops with (thomastik) flats are great for chord melody or jazz progression stuff.... Oh and one of these axes is the newly inherited Guild A 500. Yes, it gets in on the recording a bit now. Was having some trouble adapting to the string spacing at first. A bit wider than the Gibsons.

Then there are two beasts from hell that are fusion, borderline demonic. One is a Paul and the other is a mutated arch top ES-150 DC. Its had implants under the bridge (violin posts) that increased the sustain to almost solid body levels... Beefed up electronics and it will sustain until hell freezes over. Its days in the Jazz realm have been over for
decades. A Gibson Luthier guided me in mutating this beast.
Fun when the solids come out to shred and this thing catches their eye... :twisted:

And then there are the other axes that belong to the kid, and two to my wife. But thats what THEY play. This is about what I play :wink:

There is also a new addition to the family. An open back banjo that was played by someone when he was in highschool...graduated 1923... No markings or serial numbers to get an exact build date.... Its out on a stand and gets played by me and everyone else that walks by.

So in summary, why and when do I play each? There is no rhym or reason. Except for what is needed in the studio at the time. Or if someone stops by and asked if they can come out to play.

Interestingly, on another forum I recently mentioned that because I had only my 12 string for pretty much the first ten years I played, much of my six string playing sounds like at was meant for a 12, at least to my ears. Of course the fact that my F-50 has some almost 12 string sound didn't help...

I definitely don't play as much as many of you. My guitars spend the vast majority of the year in their cases, especially now that symphony season is underway (I play trumpet).

I usually keep one or two out in stands at any given time, and I like to rotate them. But soon the air will be drying out in the house and I have to be more careful about doing that.

Lately, the new F-212XL and my very old classical Favilla have been getting all my playing time. I've been working on a classical piece to (hopefully) play with one of my colleagues who has taken up cello. Wish me luck; I have zero training in classical guitar. :)
