Which Case for Guild X-150?

Hello. I bought a Corona Guild X-150 recently. It came with a TKL case that was designed for a 17" archtop, and it is so loose that I dare not use it. The Corona X-150 is 16 inch lower bout, 12 inch upper with a 10 inch waistline. It's slightly different than the Westerly model, but only by fractions of an inch which amount to nothing in terms of case fit.

I don't know how people lose guitar cases, but the guy from whom I bought this example did.

Do any of you guys out there know of a case other than the stock one that fits the X-150 well?

I prefer the cases with the reinforced top, like the Gretch 6241 case, which I think may work, but If one of you know for sure then please do tell.

Thanks

Dave

I just got a Guild case for my m-20 and it is a good quality product, made to fit perfectly. I recommend.

Compare the specs on the Corona X-150 with the NS A-150, but they should be the same, in which case (hehe) you can get the Guild case.

Others will chime in if they aren't the same, I'm sure.

It won't be a tight fit Acorn. He will just wind up with the same loose fit he has now. The A-150 case for the Newark Street has a 17" lower Bout as listed in the dimensions section of the Listing. The Corona X150 as well as The X160 are both 16" lower bout. I will pull out my Corona X160 Original Case today and see if I can't find a TKL Number on it for you Dave-Myers. I need to get another case like my X160's as well for another hollow body I have. If all else fails it will fit in a Dreadnought case and be held in place by the sides of the lower bout. I have used those in a pinch.

UPDATE: I pulled out the case for my Corona X160 and there is no tag on it anywhere but it is a TKL Case. The inner dimensions from padding to padding are as follows. Lower bout is 16", Waist is 10.25", Upper Bout is 12.25", the inner Depth of the case with the case closed is 5" with it opened the depth of the bottom measure 4.5". It is an Arched top case for extra protection. Just an Observation but my Corona made F47-BRZ acoustic that I just purchased has the exact same TKL case with no numbers on the inside and the exact same dimensions. The F47-BRZ has same dimensions as other Corona and earlier F47 guitars which are also referred to as "Mini Jumbos". If you look for the dimensions I listed above I am sure you will be able to find a TKL or compatible case online or on Ebay. Maybe Ralf here on the forum actually has a price list from 2003 that shows the TKL Part number for the original case, This is worth a shot as you could cross reference that number with what TKL is making today. Hope this helps and good luck in your search!

Take it into your local music store and try a standard Dreadnaught case. That is what many owners of Gretsch hollow body (5120, 5420, 6120) use. It won't cradle the waist like one that is specifically made for it but it should fit well and hold it in place. There are some very nice Dreadnaught sized cases. You might look at this one by SKB:

TKL A4363 fits perfect, but has the flimsy flat top...

Thanks for the reply.

I play at a local church sometimes when guys are on vacation, or in this instance - because they hate Christmas music. They want me to practice tonight, so I bought a case today at Guitar Center. It doesn't have the contoured top, but it fits perfectly.

I'll likely sell it on on Ebay when I find the stronger model, so I'm still looking - but here is the case that I got for the sake of reference:

TKL A4363 B/L

It is referenced as a case for the AF100C, AF75, AF85 and AK85. I think those are Ibanez models.

At least I'm getting closer, and I have a case for tonight.

OK, Just got a reply back from Ralf and he sent me this info from the price list of 2003 and 2005.

For "J", "JF", Jumbo, X700, X500, X150, X160 Rockabilly & "F" Series: 350-1075-213 , C5217 Deluxe Case with Burgundy Interior.
For F47 & GV70 Series: 350-1075-206 , C4516D Deluxe Case with Burgundy Interior.
For Starfire II, III & X170 Manhattan Series: 350-1075-208 , C4526 Deluxe Case with Burgundy Interior.

The first number is the FMIC part number, the second the TKL part number.

Just to double check (as we all know that catalogs often had errors in them) I also have a January 2005 pricelist. It shows:

Deluxe Guild Hardshell Cases U.S. Retail
350-1075-213 C5217 - Jumbo Acoustic $225.00 (the don't list models here but the X150 and X160 Rockabilly were listed in 2003 under that number).
350-1075-206 C4516D - F47 and GV70 $225.00
350-1075-208 C4526 - Starfire II, III, IV and X170 Models $225.00

I know the above info has the X150 listed as the same case for a Jumbo which would be incorrect as the lower Bouts are different sizes. That leads me to believe the TKL C4516D which is listed for the F47 would be correct considering my F47BRZ and X160 have the exact same Factory case from the exact same year. I tried to cross reference that number with TKL's recent line and the 7816 and 8816 models look to have the same or very similar dimensions. TKL lists them under 'Small Jumbo" or Gibson 175 style cases. You can look them up at TKL.com , Hope this helps!

Whatever TKL case Gretsch uses for a Pro Series 6120 would most likely fit (6120's have a 16" lower bout). I'm sure TKL makes a case that will be a good fit. A good place to look (I have no connection to this shop) is the website for Black Rider Vintage Guitars. They are a Gretsch and Guild dealer and always stock some nice arched top non-branded cases in various sizes (prices are good too).
